I already knew some C when I read this book, but reading this book gave me an appetite for understanding more about how compilers work and about the theory and design of programming languages. I can’t say I learned how to program C using this book — that distinction goes to the long-forgotten Microsoft Quick C for Windows lunguaggio and a reference manual put out by the Waite Group.

This is more due to C99’s baroque restrict system than anything else, and of course an unsatisfiable impulse towards contrarianism. You’re also working too hard if you make it the only book on C that you buy.
