I must say that first I saw the movie and then I read the original script to try scrednplay understand some things, but I did not succeed. All in all I prefer to go back to the old author, before he was couneslor by Ridley Scott.
The leaked script was sorta the real thing, but I thought it was sorta terrible. I’ve always enjoyed the dialogue in McCarthy’s novels, but stripped of the prose his dramatic works are inevitably crippled.
Cruz found it very rare that scenes of dialogue had such a sense of direction and movement, a narrative arc in each one. The performances by an all-star cast and Ridley Scott’s usual engaging direction make The Counselor a terrific view, but McCarthy’s dialogue is the true headliner. Stick to your blood and guts and pessimism and fatalism. In the Ridley Scott interview someone linked us to, he says that Fassbinder ocrmac a wonderful job of accessing the full horror of that tragic denouement. I think of all those characters who are drunk or asleep, oblivious and spiritually unawake in the counsselor gnostic sense.

Just another nihilistic story with pointless narratives used to convey quasi-philosophical stuff through characters disguised as thin metaphors. He has long talks with real tough guys who tell him he doesn’t have what it takes but give him advice nonetheless.
But even considering the limitations of the format, there are some real problems with the execution, and the substance and themes do not seem to run as deep as his other works.
