I enjoy Anna Maxted but the more I read by her the more I notice a sameness to her protagonists. Aug conmitted, Amanda rated it liked it. Despite reading through half the reviews, I still can’t recall anything about this book. It could have been more than that and therapy. He just struck me as the typical handsome, mysterious sort of male character.
That is not to say I did not enjoy it. At the start of the novel, Jason, Hannah’s adorable boyfriend of five years—he’s “enthusiastic, without cynicism, like a new puppy,” the polar opposite of Hannah—pops the question and Hannah turns him down, only to realize that she wants him after all. New J moves on.

Thanks for telling us about the problem. Jason, Hannah’s boyfriend of five years pops the question and Hannah turns him down, only to realize that she wants him after all. Jason agrees to give Hannah another chance if she promises to resolve her intimacy issues, visit a therapist and make amends with Jack, her ex-husband, who’s now a successful theater agent.

All this reading makes me never want to go back. New J asks girl to marry him. I find it so very hard to put her books down. Okay, I am going off onto something else here now. Books by Anna Maxted. Okay, this is definitely a summer beach read… one I snagged for free from an e-book sale and read here and there on my phone. It isn’t a quick read.
Books of the Week. When she is forced to take a mental health break of sorts from her job she uses those tools to dissect her own life. I have a feeling this is why critics said this book was hilarious, but I only laughed a handful of times.
Brookline Booksmith in Brookline, MA. I liked the main character, Hannah and thought she was funny, sarcastic and enjoyed the fact that she wasn’t a girly girl. The book is also written by a British author, who heavily uses British slang and colloquialisms that often went over my head as an American so I missed many of the jokes of t This book and I had a love hate relationship.
It’s relate-able but manages to avoid seeming tired. The book supposedly follows you through the changes Hannah makes in her life – some of which I understood, other changes were mentioned as being present – but I couldn’t easily identify them. Jan 20, Karen rated it it was ok. Is she really the emotional retard that Jason thinks she is? The main character was, in my opinion, completely obnoxious and unlikeable.
This isn’t a page turner. The story itself however didn’t have a lot of action or gravity to it.
