Pleasures, positions, powers, and privileges all come and go. The Self is like space and the minds are like water in a bucket. In olden days, they had a way of lighting up the sacrificial fire every morning. The known is the non-Self.

Satatam manthayitavyam manasaa manthaana-bhootena Mantra To quote Swami Madhavananda — bindk Amritabindu Upanishad inculcates, first, the control of the mind in the shape of desire-less-ness for sense-objects, as the most effective way to the attainment of liberation and the realisation of the One who is Knowledge and Bliss Absolute.

Like almost all other Yoga Upanishads, the text is composed in verse form.

Change is death and changelessness is immortality. Fear is of change, of death. Just as many reflected images of the moon have the one and only moon in the sky as upanishda truth of them all, the apparently many souls have the one Self Atman as their Truth. Cows are of various colors, milk is one-colored, the wise man looks upon soul as milk, of bodies as cows of different garbs, knowledge is hidden, as butter in milk.

The mind that is attached to sense-objects leads to bondage, while dissociated from sense bihdu it tends to lead to liberation. The simple thought of the mantra becomes a wonderful support against all distractions.

The mind is said to be of two kinds, pure and impure. Transcendence of the mind takes place. This is wisdom, this is meditation. The mind that is dissociated from sense objects tends to lead to Liberation. The opposite of love is fear. Vivekananda often spoke about the same.


Realizing him, sages attained freedom and declared there are no separate minds. The Oneness of all life is upanishsd essence of Vedanta. Whatever way we think it needs lot of Saadhana in each life of ours. It becomes impure driven by the senses; but when the senses are under control, the mind becomes pure. Upanoshad evaa-aatma mantavyoe jagrat-svapna-sushuptishu. In Colebrooke’s version of 52 Upanishads popular in north India, the text is listed at number 19 along with the other four Amita Upanishads with similar theme.

The text ends with a one verse summary. There is no birth for one who has gone beyond all these three states. Amritabindu Upanishad describes that the mind is the cause of bondage and liberation. The mind that is attached to material objects sense-objects leads to bondage, while if it is disassociated from material objects sense-objects it can lead to liberation.

The Self is called here the Consciousness, the spiritual heart, distinct from the blood-pumping organ. Put it in sunlight for long, it amritq its colors.
